Master's (Non-Thesis) & Ed.S. Track
Designed for students in professional or course-based programs.
Phase 1: Planning & Registration
- Deadline: Before the end of your second semester
- Action: File your Plan of Study with the Office of Graduate Student Services (ogs@kent.edu)
- Consequence: Failure to file this form will result in a registration hold, preventing you from signing up for future classes
Phase 2: Final Semester & Graduation
- Deadline: By the first Friday of the semester you intend to graduate
- Action: Apply for Graduation via Flashline
- Timeline Reminders:
- Master's Degrees: Usually completed in 1 to 6 years; the strict limit is 6 years
- Ed.S. Degrees: Must be completed within 5 years
Master's (Thesis) Track
Designed for students conducting original research and defending a thesis or project.
Phase 1: Advisory & Committee Setup
- Coursework Milestone: File your Plan of Study before the end of your second semester to avoid registration holds
- Proposal Phase: Once your committee is set and you have defended your proposal, file the Notification of Approved Master's Thesis or Master's Project Committee & Proposal form
- IRB Requirement: Include IRB approval with your proposal form, if applicable
Phase 2: Graduation Application
- Deadline: By the first Friday of your final semester
- Action: Apply for Graduation via Flashline
- Note: Your Committee/Proposal form must be submitted with or before this application
Phase 3: Defense & Final Submission
- Review Deadlines: Monitor the OGSS Important Dates for specific defense deadlines
- After Defense: File the Report of Oral Defense Master's Thesis or Master's Project form
- Final Steps:
- Initiate the Electronic Signature Page
- Upload your final thesis to the OhioLink ETD Center
- If OAA requests further corrections, follow their instructions and resubmit to OhioLink
