The IRC houses a collection of over 5,000 items. This includes materials appropriate for all grade levels (preschool through adult) and includes a variety of formats:

Checkout Policies

All checkouts are done at the front desk of the IRC. Patrons must complete a patron information form the first time they check out items in order to be in the computer system. All fines must be paid and overdue items returned before further items can be checked out. Patrons will receive three overdue notices and three fine notices. If fines and overdue items are not settled by the end of the semester, notices will be mailed and, if still not settled, then patrons' university accounts will be charged. If your university account has been charged, you will no longer be able to check out at the IRC.

Books

The IRC is home to a number of books and materials relevant to students within the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. Educational and curriculum materials are available in all subjects and at all grade levels. We also feature several selections on teaching in the 21st century with books on educational technology, social media, and online education. We have a number of text resources for students preparing to take the Praxis Core test, as well as popular materials including children's picture books and young adult fiction such as the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Divergent series.

Books can be checked out for two weeks at a time with one renewal, and late fees are $.10 a day.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff may for the IRC to purchase, store, and checkout; materials, media, and equipment.

FACULTY EQUIPMENT FOR DELIVERY

Faculty can reserve laptop carts to be delivered to the classroom at the beginning of class. Mobile carts cannot be reserved for an entire semester. If you need computers on a regular basis, please reserve a classroom computer lab. All reservations should be made through the IRC or the faculty and staff portal.

Items available for reserve include:

  • Mobile MacBook Cart: The MacBook cart has 30 MacBooks that are delivered and picked up from the classrooms. All MacBooks connect to wireless Internet. These laptops will also print to the computer labs/IRC via Uniprint.
  • Mobile Dell Cart: The Dell cart has 22 laptops that are delivered and picked up from the classrooms. All laptops connect to wireless internet. These laptops have CD/DVD drives.
  • iPad Cart: The iPad cart has 30 iPads that are delivered and picked up from the classrooms.
  • Assistive Technology Cart: This cart has 15 Dell laptops. Two of the laptops have "Dragon" talk-to-text program. This cart also has four extra large monitors for easy viewing, headphones with microphones, extra keyboards, and mice.
  • Document Cameras: White Hall classrooms have either document cameras or overhead projectors. However, if you would like to project something other than a transparency, and your room only has an overhead projector, please contact the Tech Office (room 209 White Hall) 330-672-297
KSTEP Kits

The KSTEP materials available for checkout include an iPad, power plug, and tripod.

The checkout period is 15 business days and is nonrenewable. Patrons can check kits out at the KSTEP Tech Support Center (212 White Hall) or IRC (221 White Hall).

Each item borrowed has a $10.00 late fee PER DAY late

Students

STUDENT CHECK-OUT

The IRC provides equipment free of charge to students to check out in accordance with IRC policy. New patrons will need to complete the patron information form before checking out materials. Below is the equipment available for check out for EHHS students:

Items are picked up and returned to the front desk of the IRC. Upon check out and return an equipment check out form will be filled out and a signature is required by the student.

Test Kits

The Instructional Resource Center has a wide variety of assessment test kits and their protocols available. Test kits are free to check out to any faculty, staff, or student in EHHS. Coordinated class checkouts are given priority over walk-ins.

Test kits can be checked out for one week at a time with no renewals unless otherwise approved by the Assessment Graduate Assistant, Mahdia Ahmadi (mahmadi2_stu@kent.edu). School psychology students who are checking out assessments as part of class curriculum maybe granted longer checkout times and renewals at the discretion of the Assessment GA based on availability. There is a $10 per day late fee.

Patrons will be charged for any missing or damaged items from a test kit. Charges will be equal to the cost of item replacement as determined by the Assessment GA.

All protocols can be purchased by students, faculty, or staff. The prices of protocols vary by type and are subject to change at any time as companies increase their prices, but are sold at value to faculty, staff, and students. The IRC also has several test-kits available for two hour reserve. These test-kits can be looked at in the IRC with a valid ID for up to two hours.
