ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï graduate Erik Gomez, who earned his bachelor’s degree in political science in May, spoke at Spring Commencement about his journey as a first-generation Latino-American student. Gomez, who was active in student government, completed an internship with the U.S. Senate before graduation and is currently working there as a staff assistant. He also was a member of the McNair Scholars Program, which prepares first-generation, undergraduate students, from groups underrepresented in graduate schools, for doctoral study. Community Lab has had a huge impact on my time here at ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State, it has allowed me to make good friends and lifelong connections. This is a community that always has your back and your best interest at heart. If it wasn't for Community Lab believing in me and my ability to succeed, I probably would be 10 steps behind in reaching and achieving my goals of becoming a physical therapist, but instead it has put me 10 steps ahead.
