Student Employee Learning Outcomes: 2023 - 2024

• Academic and Co-Curricular Integration: Student employees will be able to: 
  • Demonstrate how their academics support their work and how work can support their academics through the Flashes GROW program.  
  • Identify specific skills that transfer from classroom experience to work and vice versa.  
  • Apply this learning when doing a mock written job application process.
• Personal Well-being: Student employees will be able to:
  • Identify the 8 dimensions of well-being created by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) 
  • Reflect and assess where they currently are for each of the 8 dimensions of well-being and develop a plan of improvement. 
  • Apply the 8 dimensions of well-being in their day-to-day life through the form of behavior change.  
• Career Readiness: Student employees will be able to: 
  • Identify what 8 essential job skills can be transferable and applied to their own profession using the NACE Career 鈥� Readiness Workforce Competencies.  
  • Apply and reflect on their growth in how they have developed these skillsets throughout their employment at Recreation and Wellness Services.  
  • Measure their actual growth through self- evaluation and their supervisor鈥檚 evaluations.  

Recreation and Wellness Services understands that all our student employees, regardless of their position, are working towards a career. We are committed to ensuring that our students are career-ready. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines Career Readiness as: the attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition into the workplace.

NACE has determined that specific competencies make an individual career ready. The following list contains the NACE competencies in which student employees will develop to prepare them for their careers: 

• Career & Self Development: Proactively develop oneself and one鈥檚 career through continual personal and professional learning, awareness of one鈥檚 strengths and weaknesses, navigation of career opportunities, and networking to build relationships within and without one鈥檚 organization.
• Communication: Clearly and effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of an organization.
• Critical Thinking: Identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.
• Equity/Inclusion: Demonstrate the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills required to equitably engage and include people from different local and global cultures. Engage in anti-racist practices that actively challenge the systems, structures, and policies of racism.
• Leadership: Recognize and capitalize on personal and team strengths to achieve organizational goals.
• Professionalism: Knowing work environments differ greatly, understand and demonstrate effective work habits, and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace.
• Teamwork: Build and maintain collaborative relationships to work effectively toward common goals, while appreciating diverse viewpoints and shared responsibilities.
• Technology: Understand and leverage technologies ethically to enhance efficiencies, complete tasks, and accomplish goals.

Recreation and Wellness Services has adopted these competencies because they fit within our own mission, vision, and values. We will ensure that each of our student employees will receive professional development in each competency through trainings, in-services, evaluations, general work experience, and more.  It is our goal to be more than just a paycheck.  We hope to help each student employee progress down their career path to be successful after college. 

Student Leader Learning Outcomes: 2023 - 2024

Student leaders will learn:

• 天天吃瓜 their own leadership style and personal strengths and how it can be fluid in different situations and contexts.  
• Learn how one鈥檚 own leadership style can both limit and enhance one鈥檚 ability as an overall leader.  
• Learn how to enhance one鈥檚 personal leadership efficacy and capacity while being in a leadership role by empowering members of their team, such as鈥� 
  • Recognizing someone鈥檚 personal strengths and opportunities for growth through practicing the art of giving feedback.
  • Practicing empathy, problem solving, and perspective taking.  
  • Knowing how to balance both leadership and management skills effectively.  
  • Understanding learning differences within different types of learners.  
  • How to effectively balance both leadership and management while at work by understanding the differences between the two and when to use them in different situations. 
  • Working together as a team.
