Program Description:  Teaching Scholars

The Teaching Scholars Program promotes shared scholarly inquiry into teaching and learning. Those interested in conducting scholarly examinations of strategies designed to enhance student learning are encouraged to apply. This program continues to be built around collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary faculty colleagues engaging in the scholarly examination of learning. The primary goal of this program is to support faculty in the design, implementation, and assessment of scholarly projects that identify and create significant learning environments.  Participants will receive a $2000.00 stipend upon completion of the program.

The broad aims of the program include:

  • Assessing, developing, and enhancing student learning
  • Building an interdisciplinary community of scholars around learning and teaching
  • Building strategies for the scholarly study of student learning
  • Identifying, through research, elements of significant learning environments

The benefits of the program for participants include:

  • Participating in a year-long program that focuses on the scholarship of learning and teaching
  • The development of collegial relationships across disciplines
  • Participation at a conference on learning, teaching, and SoTL
  • Developing methods for studying, documenting, and assessing learning and teaching.

Application questions of no more than 200 - 400 words include:

  • At this time, what are the research question(s) that you are proposing for your project (no more than 400 -600 words).
    • Each Teaching Scholar will be expected to develop a scholarly examination into one or more ways in which teaching influences student learning experiences.  These projects might be linked with a specific course or process designed to improve student learning (such as cooperative learning, active learning, technology implementation to name just a few).
  • What experiences, interests, knowledge and skills might you contribute to colleagues in this learning community (no more than 200-400 words)?
  • Describe an innovative teaching activity in which you have been involved that have made a difference your students' learning (no more than 200-400 words).
  • Indicate how your participation in this program will contribute to your professional goals (no more than 200-400 words).

Applications will open in early Spring 2027 and be accepted from all full-time Tenure Track and full-time Non-Tenure Track faculty members.

Gargi Bhaduri

Fashion, 天天吃瓜 Campus

Gargi Bhaduri, PhD, serves as an Associate Professor (advancing to Professor in Fall 2026), Associate Director, and Undergraduate Coordinator for the School of Fashion. Her research explores the intersections of creative manufacturing, circular supply chains, and public education. Driven by the belief that empowerment stems from transparency, Dr. Bhaduri employs an information-processing approach to help supply chain constituents make conscious, ethical decisions.

A distinguished educator, Dr. Bhaduri has secured over $150,000 in external teaching grants to advance pedagogy. She finds her greatest professional joy in the classroom, fostering a collaborative environment where she learns alongside her students as they reach their full potential.

This commitment to lifelong learning extends to her life as a small business owner, gardener, and avid traveler. She views the garden as a master teacher in patience and incremental progress, learning to pivot based on the constant feedback of nature. Similarly, her travels serve as a vital tool for growth; she believes that exploring the world opens the mind, sparking the curiosity to ask better questions and discover innovative, diverse ways of solving problems.

Lynne Guillot Miller

I am an associate professor in the School of Lifespan Development and Educational Sciences. I am on the faculty in the Counselor Education and Supervision Program. While teaching courses associated with school counseling, counseling children, assessment in counseling, and College Teaching, I have developed a research interest in using collaborative group assignments and creativity in teaching and supervision. My teaching philosophy aligns with relational cultural and experiential theoretical approaches. I have a commitment to teaching and learning and have served on the curriculum committees for our Program and School and the University Teaching Council for several years.

I have been a member of the 天天吃瓜 community for almost 16 years. I am a Spanish lecturer, as a non-tenure track faculty I have served as Elementary Spanish coordinator and taught lower and upper division courses. I am proud to be part of the KSU family, and I am grateful for all the opportunities I have found here at 天天吃瓜.  One thing I really like as a faculty member is seeing my students learning and growing as individuals. I am interested in learning strategies that help students achieve goals in language learning.

Lauren Vachon

Multidisciplinary Social Studies and Humanities, 天天吃瓜 Campus

Lauren Vachon is an Associate Professor of LGBTQ Studies and coordinator of the LGBTQ Studies minor program. Lauren鈥檚 research and teaching interests include fiction writing, LGBTQ history, queer pedagogy, and collecting LGBTQ oral histories. Lauren was a research assistant on the Queer Pandemic: Resilience in Times of Crisis project, which collected oral histories of LGBTQ people in the United Kingdom and is affiliated with the Queer Britain museum. Lauren also was a part of the faculty team that supervised student work on a 2019 天天吃瓜 State theater piece titled 鈥淪tonewall +50: The Riot Continues.鈥 The play was written and performed by 天天吃瓜 State students in March 2019 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Lauren earned an MFA in creative writing from the NEOMFA.

When Lauren is not at work, she鈥檚 probably outside. Lauren鈥檚 hobbies include backpacking, knitting, sewing, and spending way too much time with her 3-ish cats (three indoor cats, one feral barn cat). Lauren is working on a novel draft that鈥檚 a genderqueer retelling of the 1915 feminist utopian novel Herland.

Jiahui Wang

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Studies, 天天吃瓜 Campus

Dr. Jiahui Wang is an Associate Professor of Educational Technology at 天天吃瓜. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Educational Technology from the University of Florida. Her research investigates how individual learner differences shape the way students engage with STEM content in technology-rich environments, with a growing emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence in education. She examines the underlying cognitive and attentional processes that occur while students interact with educational technologies, using advanced process measures such as visual attention, neural oscillations, and digital trace data (e.g., mouse clicks). By analyzing these multimodal learning signals, Dr. Wang鈥檚 work provides insights into how AI-driven tools can adapt to learners鈥 needs and personalize instruction.
