Fierce rivalry between ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State and Akron comes down to competition and an old wagon wheel.

It’s that time of year when the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Golden Flashes and the Akron Zips basketball teams go head-to-head in a historic rivalry that is fueled by fierce competition, bragging rights and local folklore. The women's basketball team defeated the Zips 57-55 at James A. Rhodes Arena on Wednesday and soon it will be the men's turn.  The Flashes will play The School Down the Road on Feb. 3 for the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge contest. What a night it was at this winter wonderland! Sparkling lights lit up the ice rink as alumni and friends glided by. An acapella group and the spirit of Golden Flashes added to the magic of this winter night. Golden Flashes escaped the winter blues at Alumni Skate Night this past weekend on Jan. 28. Attendees took a break from ice skating to enjoy some tasty treats and a hot chocolate bar inside the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Hotel and Conference Center. Feb. 1 marks the start of Black History Month. WKYC Channel 3 in Cleveland looked at the origins of Black History Month and ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï’s connection to the monthlong celebration.
