The ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Campus may experience power interruptions due to turbine testing on Friday, Nov. 11.
ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State generates a large portion of the power used on the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Campus. The university will be testing the turbines to check on the reliability and operation of control and distribution systems. This exercise tests the turbines’ ability to power the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Campus without being connected to the Ohio Edison power grid.

The first phase of the Summit Street: Building a Better Way Improvement Project is almost complete. Work began nearly a year ago on the stretch of Summit Street from Fraternity Circle to just past Loop Road, and that section of the road is expected to be finished by mid-November.

The air will become a little clearer on ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï campuses come July 1, 2017. That is when ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State will become a smoke-free, tobacco-free university. At its meeting in May, the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State Board of Trustees approved university policy 3345-5-21, which aligns with the university-level initiative to create a healthy campus environment for all employees, students and visitors.

The ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Police Services hosted its first-ever Coffee With a Cop event in the Nest in the ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï Student Center on Sept. 14. Students who attended the event had the opportunity to interact with ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State police officers in a casual setting and receive free coffee, and the first 200 students who attended also received a free travel mug.

ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï’s Parking and Transit Services is piloting a parking app this fall for commuter lots. When the app is fully operational, it will allow users to determine if a parking lot is full or has vacant spaces. As part of the pilot program, the commuter lot behind Verder Hall will be the first to use the technology.

ÌìÌì³Ô¹Ï State has made a minor revision to its winter closure schedule for the current year. The university will close as previously scheduled on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025, at 10:30 p.m., with offices now set to re-open on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026.
